Impact Construction

Project Summary

We’re working to build a more diverse and inclusive construction industry by connecting individuals from underrepresented backgrounds with opportunities and resources.

Impact Construction is a collaborative initiative between Cognitive Paths, Willmott Dixon, and Acorn Recruitment. The project addresses the lack of diversity within the UK construction industry by creating opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds at all levels, from on-site roles to management positions and throughout the supply chain.

The Challenge

The UK construction industry has historically struggled with diversity and inclusion, resulting in underrepresentation of individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds and a workforce that doesn’t reflect the broader society.

The industry’s lack of diversity can hinder innovation, limit the talent pool, and perpetuate inequalities.

Feedback and Testimonials

Participants and partners expressed positive feedback, highlighting the event’s value in providing career information, networking opportunities, and pathways into the construction industry.

Working with Cognitive Paths and Acorn Recruitment allowed us to connect with talented individuals we might not have reached through traditional channels. We're proud to have been part of this initiative to increase diversity within our industry

The event was a great opportunity for me to learn about careers in construction. I now have a job with a construction firm, which I didn't think was possible before attending

I enrolled in a construction course after the event. The connections I made and the information I received were invaluable

Our Solution

The networking event provided an impactful platform for open dialogue, barrier identification, and information sharing about work opportunities and training programmes.

Future Outlook

Building on this initial success, the partnering organisations aim to expand the programme’s reach and impact through future events, ongoing mentorship, and development of additional resources.

This approach includes exploring new strategies for outreach, barrier removal, and long-term support for individuals entering the construction industry.
