The Bristol Black History Month Magazine is a community-led initiative that aims to amplify Black voices and celebrate Black history and culture in Bristol throughout the year. By providing a platform for diverse perspectives and fostering collaboration, the project continues to make significant contributions to the local community and the wider cultural landscape.
The PlaceMaking for Inclusive Neighbourhoods project has empowered underrepresented communities and promoted equitable participation in local planning processes. By collaborating with residents and local authorities, Cognitive Paths developed innovative strategies to address challenges such as unequal access, limited engagement, and power imbalances. Through this project, we’ve successfully fostered inclusive communities and created lasting positive change.
The One Bristol Curriculum (OBC) is a groundbreaking initiative addressing the underrepresentation of diverse cultures and histories in education. By developing inclusive curriculum resources and fostering collaboration between educators and community members, the OBC aims to create a more equitable and culturally relevant learning experience for all students. This project has had a significant impact on student engagement, academic achievement, and social cohesion.
Football Friday, in partnership with a local youth centre, provides weekly football sessions for an average of 60 young people aged 14-19 at St. Pauls Sports Academy. Launched in 2019, the programme aims to increase physical activity, improve physical and mental well-being, and enhance social and communication skills among local youth.
The Ubuntu Education Programme is an extracurricular character development initiative for 11-16-year-olds. It provides opportunities for young people to explore their identity and heritage, develop social and emotional skills, and understand their role within society. Originally planned as an after-school programme, the pilot sessions were adapted for online delivery in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Impact Construction is a collaborative initiative between Cognitive Paths, Willmott Dixon, and Acorn Recruitment. The project addresses the lack of diversity within the UK construction industry by creating opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds at all levels, from on-site roles to management positions and throughout the supply chain.
